Frank A. Haye is an accomplished and inspiring musician, choral director, composer and producer. He discovered his passion and talent for music at a young age and has been performing since he was 12 years old. A vocalist and conductor, Haye also plays multiple instruments, including violin, flute, piano, organ, oboe, clarinet and trumpet. He served as the assistant director for the Boys Choir of Harlem from 1995 to 1998 and as the Pastor of the Sacred Arts Ministry for Emmanuel Baptist Church from 1998 to 2010. Under his direction Emmanuel’s Total Praise Choir ministered around the country and as far away as South Africa. They performed at Lincoln Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Summer Stage in Central Park, and Celebrate Brooklyn in Prospect Park, among other venues. In addition, they have performed with artists such as Aretha Franklin at the NBC Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting (2009), Shirley Murdock, Carla Cook, Ken Hicks and several others.
As the founder of The Brooklyn Interdenominational Choir (BIC), Haye has assembled a group of performing ambassadors who use artistic expression to bring people together to spread the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ through the arts. BIC has sung for numerous events and broadcasts including worship services, interfaith gatherings, concerts, festivals, clubs, street fairs, community events, international service clubs, philanthropic groups, fraternal social associations, and artistic organizations such as Celebrate Brooklyn!, the Mark Morris Dance Group, and the Brooklyn Philharmonic and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. In addition, BIC performed at HBO Studios in televised shows for CBS, NBC, HBO, along with TBN’s 15th Street Live and Easter in New York which aired on various networks BIC won second place honors in the April 2014 International Choir Competition in Verona, Italy. At the amphitheater Arena di Verona, Italy Haye conducted an international choir--comprised of 19 choirs from 10 countries—in a massed sing selection. As members of the May 2016 cast of Hope and A Future at the BRIC Arts Media House, Haye and BIC appeared in a play about creating self-sufficient communities in Haiti. Haye conducted BIC in the We Care for Humanity’s Global Officials of Dignity Awards Gala at the United Nations in August 2016.
Biography
Haye has served as an adjunct faculty member at Brooklyn College and a visiting professor of music at New York University and The University of the West Indies. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music, and received a fellowship to pursue a master’s degree in musicology and conducting. For more than two years, Haye directed the Brooklyn College Choir, where—for the first time at the college--he instituted a gospel choir. Currently, Haye is Artist-in-Residence at the Cornerstone Baptist Church. He is also producing a new CD for Butler Church’s Spirit -N Black Choir and consulting with churches and other organizations on music projects.
