The Maidenhead Community Choir is a friendly and inclusive choir for all singers, old and young, experienced and novices and from all musical backgrounds. We meet on Tuesday nights at 7.00pm for an hour and a quarter of music and fun. There are no auditions, no need to read music and the emphasis is on singing for the sheer joy of it.
The repertoire reaches from Gospel, Swing, Barbershop, Folk, and Musical Theatre to Pop and Rock. Although this is a light-hearted choral group there is also work on vocal technique, musicianship and performance skills. Joy Reibl, our professional pianist is proficiently accompanying the singers.
The choir is run largely in the aural tradition, so much is being learned by ear, Actual sheet music will be provided for more complex pieces.
St.Piran's chapel is the ideal venue for the choir where we rehearse in the beautiful little church with free parking and the opportunity to mingle in the pub next door afterward and meet new people.
In the past years, we have shared concerts with the renowned London Adventist Chorale under Ken Burton and the Reading Community Gospel Choir as well as performing at Cliveden, Windsor Theatre Royal, Windsor Castle, Taplow Court and with Charlie Dore and Howard Jones.
During Lockdown we have run our choir virtually over Zoom.
Our History
Founded in 2010 the MCC has rehearsed at Maidenhead's Art Centre, Norden Farm until growing numbers made us move to a bigger venue.
Alongside our weekly rehersals we have offered regular singing workshops in the summer run by famous choir leaders such as Karen Gibosn (Kingdom Choir), Ken Burton (Songs of Praise) and Steve V King (The Drifters).
We have also run three singing holidays in Spain and Turkey .
