Voices of Aloha’s origins began in the year 1916 when it was formed as The Gleemen of Honolulu, the “oldest men’s chorus west of the Rockies.”  Talented singers who lent their voices to the group through the years included Hawaii notables like Territorial Governor Lawrence Judd, internationally renowned opera tenor Charles K. L. Davis, composers Charles E. King and R. Alex Anderson, U.S. Senator Daniel Akaka, Kailua Madrigal musical director Shigeru Hotoke and Dr. Norman Rian of the University of Hawai`i faculty.   The current Voices of Aloha chorale has remained for over 100 years faithful to its legacy of community musical performances at local venues.  Membership is open to all who love music and singing. Its four vocal parts chorus includes singers from all walks of life. Voices of Aloha performs for senior clubs, care homes and retirement centers, and it presents annual Spring and Holiday concerts.   The most frequent venue for our concert events is the famed Kawaiaha`o Church in downtown Honolulu, a majestic setting for classical and local choral music. The future remains bright for this historic Voices of Aloha chorus as it presents a rare opportunity to enjoy and express their love of singing.
