We are a jazz-oriented chorus, about 16 people. We meet once/week: the first Sunday afternoon of each month, and then 3 Monday evenings. Rehearsals are on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. We perform once or twice each season, and our rehearsals go from September to the end of June. We look for people who love jazz and have a feeling for music that swings!
Our History
Lance Hayward formed this chorus. He was a pianist from Bermuda, transplanted to New York, and loved working with singers. He wrote beautiful, accessible jazz arrangements and was the group's accompanist. When he died, the group decided that the energy he had created was strong and vibrant, and was so much fun that its members wanted to continue on. Claudia Marx began leading the group at that point, and found a wonderful pianist, Yuka Aikawa, to fill Lance's enormous shoes. We've been together more than 25 years at this point, and going strong.
The joy of singing with a small group of talented people!
Additional Info for Choristers
Some reading skills are important. Currently we are looking for several new women: both Altos and Sopranos, but we'd never turn away a good male voice either. To audition, email: [email protected] or call 212.255.0553.
We each contribute $13 per month which simply contributes to pay the pianist.
