WRC is an all volunteer group composed of approximately 100 members with varying musical ability and experience, under the direction of Artistic Director David Gilson. Rehearsals are held from September to May, every Tuesday evening from 7:15 - 9:30 PM at Church of the Saviour, 2537 Lee Road, Cleveland Hts, OH. New and prospective members are always welcome. While auditions are not required, it is expected that members be able to read music, blend acoustically, follow choral direction and attend rehearsals regularly.
Our History
Appearances over the past 32 years have included collaborative concerts with the R. Nathaniel Dett Concert Choir of the Cleveland School of the Arts, Choral Arts Cleveland, Suburban Symphony and the Heights Chamber Orchestra, plus performances at The Maltz Perfoming Arts Center, The Cleveland Play House, Judson Manor, Judson Park, The McGregor Home, The Waterford, The Renaissance and Hamlet Village. We have provided the chorus for concert performances H.M.S. Pinafore and The Mikado by Gilbert and Sullivan in collaboration with Opera per Tutti and Chagrin Falls Studio Orchestra. Twice a small group participated in performances of Verdi’s Dies Irae from the Requiem after the showing of a film called “Defiant Requiem” at the Chagrin Falls Documentary Film Festival and at Temple Tifereth Israel.
I enjoy the challenging repertoire we sing. I like the presentation and structure from our director during rehearsals.
Making music together, David’s direction, discovering music I had never been exposed to, sense of community.
I enjoyed the opportunity to learn & sing unique music. Also, our conductor is an outstanding professional- his knowledge of teaching techniques is the best I’ve ever experienced.
I love singing with such a large and talented group under such a wonderful choral conductor, He challenges us, but has a very relatable and kind demeanor while doing so.
I enjoy being in a choir and having the chance to sing each week. This choir challenges me enough, allows me to have fun with good people, I'm proud of being part of this Chorale.
Additional Info for Choristers
By being a member of WRC, you agree to:
-Pay annual membership dues of $135 (Special arrangements can be made if this is a hardship. Please speak with the Executive Director.)
-Regularly attend rehearsals (Sign out on the calendar if you know you will be absent.)
-Attend all performances (Let your Section Leader know if you cannot be there for a concert. There are opportunities to sing the music again in December and June at Outreach Performances).
-Adhere to concert dress for performances (Either Tuxedos with Black Bowtie or Long Skirt or Slacks with Black Top (at least ¾ length sleeves). Black Shoes and either black or neutral socks/hosiery.
-Have a love for singing and a desire to challenge yourself vocally. (Practice at home so that rehearsals can be used for fine-tuning and details rather than learning notes.)
-Be respectful of the Director and other singers (However softly you talk, talking during rehearsal echoes through the room and is disruptive. Please ask questions about your issues with the music, not issues your neighbor might be having. Please communicate with your Section Leader if you have any concerns).
-Read your email from WRC (Sunday E-Minders) and listen to announcements. (Please talk with the Executive Director if you have trouble receiving email or need printed documents).
