Welcome to Voices Chamber Choir's 24th season. As the choir begins preparation for our 25th anniversary in 2021, we have an exciting season ahead to lead us into that celebration. Our annual Christmas concert on December 14, 2019 will feature a perennial favourite for children’s and women’s choir: Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols, arranged for mixed voice ensemble and harp. With the additional male voices added to this version, it provides a new sonority and sensation to this masterwork by one of the great 20th century British composers. For our Lenten concert on March 28, 2020 the choir will turn to the lesser known Italian composer Antonio Caldara with his expressive and heartfelt setting of the Stabat Mater, and other music for the season of reflection and meditation. To end our season, Voices will present a program of great poetry set to music on June 6, 2020. This performance will feature words from Shakespeare to Sara Teasdale and music from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Ola Gjeilo as well as Canadian composers such as Ruth Watson Henderson, Matthew Emery and more. Just in time to kick off our 25th anniversary celebration, the choir will make their debut at Roy Thomson Hall on Thursday, June 11th, 2020 as part of the Noon Hour Choir and Organ Series. For this special occasion, the choir will present a unique program featuring music of mostly Canadian women composers and poets. Also, you will hear our fabulous organist playing solo works on the magnificent organ at Roy Thomson Hall. We hope that you can join us this season in celebration of the human voice.
Our History
