Prior to her appointment as director of BYU’s Women’s Chorus in 2019, Dr. Poulter has made a career as a conductor, accompanist, and vocal instructor at the Madeleine Choir School, Utah Valley University, and Hale Center Studios. She is a member of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square and is frequently conducting choirs for general events of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including the church’s annual Music Festival.
Biography
A native of Germany, Sonja Poulter received undergraduate and graduate degrees in Music Education, Musicology, and English from the University of Music and Performing Arts and the Goethe University in Frankfurt Germany. She received her Master of Music degree and Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting and Vocal Performance, having studied under Dr. Barlow Bradford and Prof. Kiersten Gunlogson at the University of Utah.
