Caz Jeffreys is an inspiring and passionate community musician; originating from England, and living in West Cork, Ireland since 1993. Caz has been involved in a variety of music projects within the community since before moving to Ireland, and has been further diversifying her experience ever since. In 2014 she achieved a Master of Arts degree in Community Music, out of the University of Limerick, Ireland, in which she was awarded a first class honors.
Caz has built up much experience within the community choir sector and has been running weekly groups with adults since 2003. In 2014 Caz began working with childrens’ and youth choirs, singing groups for those suffering with Dementia, and also within the Mental Health sector. She is a member of the Natural Voice Practitioners Network and her facilitation approach is inclusive. While regular sessions are mainly based on contemporary and world folk music, her vast repertoire and wide taste in music, enables her to be very adaptable to meet requests and to suit the needs of any group.
She has worked and performed with a number of bands, singers and musicians of varying genres and styles over the years; as musician, singer and composer…some incorporating costume and movement. Her focus with composition, arrangement work and performance now mostly lies in preparing and supporting vocal groups for participation in festivals and events.
Caz also runs workshops in song writing and in arranging songs for multiple voices. She enjoys working with a collaborative approach to supporting adult and youth groups and individuals in building confidence when working with their own ideas.
She has been involved in the management and organisation of numerous projects, events and festivals, and enjoys collaborative projects with other groups, artists and art forms. She is energetic and self motivated, working well as a part of a team, or on her own. If you are looking for support and inspiration then she is a great person to engage and share ideas with.
Caz also offers ‘fun and frolics’ with Abdul the Camel – a theatrical pantomime character. Together with his crew he provides interactive workshops for children and families, interweaving storytelling, singing, movement, percussive music making, and song writing. A colourful and creative participatory activity, these activities encourage children to explore their own creativity, whilst building on musical and social skills, confidence and self expression. This project was launched in 2000 in which Caz co-wrote and directed a “musical-style” amateur theatrical production as a participatory community event, based around ‘Abdul, and including musical compositions and choreographed dance.
In all Caz’s endeavors, she aims to provide meaningful experiences and responds well to a given theme. She promotes music for well being - as a powerful tool for engaging with ourselves, each other and our environment, and as a positive and creative approach to addressing issues – be they of a personal nature or as a tool for exploring issues within our society. She is happy to travel and enjoys meeting and working with new people.
