David Johnson, the music director of the Chorus, began his music education at an early age. As a young boy he attended many singing schools that were a part of his rural Southern landscape in the 50s and 60s, learning to sing parts and read shape notes. He was leading singing in churches by the age of 10. His parents consistently bought and played albums by the Robert Shaw Chorale, planting an appreciation for a cappella choral music.
