Welcome to St Albans Bach Choir, one of the finest large choirs in Hertfordshire. Since our inaugural concert in 1924 we have performed a wide variety of major choral works, including: the Baroque masterpieces of Bach and Handel; the gems of the classical era by Mozart and Haydn; the giants of the Romantic choral repertoire by composers like Brahms, Dvořák, Fauré, Mendelssohn and Verdi; and the great works of the twentieth century such as Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast and Britten’s War Requiem.
Our History
St Albans Bach Choir gave its inaugural concert in March 1924 with a performance of Bach's St Matthew Passion. We present a wide variety of music in our concert programmes, whilst continuing to perform the major works in the choral repertoire. Every Christmas we give two concerts in aid of charity.
We engage soloists and orchestras of the highest calibre but also have a tradition of engaging young singers, many of whom have since developed international careers. We are privileged to perform in the Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Alban, as we have since the inception of the choir. In keeping with tradition, the Cathedral's Master of the Music, Andrew Lucas, is our Music Director.
