The Camberwell Chorale is a community of people which meets regularly to share the joy and challenge of learning and performing quality choral music. Members come from all around Melbourne, gathering in the City of Boroondara to celebrate their love of music and to prepare for the usual five or six concerts a year. The Chorale has been doing this since 1944, and it's still going strong!
Our History
The Camberwell Chorale, currently celebrating its 70th year, was founded by Dr Herman Schildberger in 1944. It is a community choir directed by Douglas Heywood OAM, who has directed Camberwell Chorale since 1974.
The aim of the Chorale is to provide its members with the opportunity to perform significant choral works at the highest achievable level.
Camberwell Chorale is a non-profit organisation of approximately ninety members. It is managed by an annually-elected Committee, and is funded by membership subscriptions, fund raising events, concert takings, and some support from the Boroondara City Council.
