Cantorum Chamber Choir is a group of 38 singer-musicians known for their dynamic performances and varied repertoire. The choir, which began at Brigham Young University as an early music ensemble, transformed into one of the premier non-collegiate chamber groups in the Western United States.
This award-winning ensemble achieves high performance standards by drawing on the rich musical heritage of the region. Many Cantorum singers have solo careers and all have sung with top collegiate ensembles. A number have also sung as members of The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Utah Chamber Artists, and Salt Lake Vocal Artists. In addition, Cantorum is proud to have a high representation of talented choral educators.
The group won both of its categories at the 2016 Interkultur competition and received special commendation for their performance of Dale Warland and Hugo Distler.
Cantorum is under the direction of Steven Durtschi, a graduate of Brigham Young University and Utah State University.
Cantorum singers are team players with extensive choral backgrounds and professional singing experience. The ensemble traditionally performs approximately 4-5 times each season (Sept. – Dec. and Jan. – April). Auditions are held by appointment only, usually at the conclusion of the previous season.
Our Mission
The group’s mission is to create outstanding chamber choral music to be shared with local and national audiences. Through performing, recording, and outreach to young musicians, Cantorum seeks to inspire a new generation and foster a high-level of artistry in our community.
