Cappella Festiva Chamber Choir has garnered a reputation throughout the Hudson Valley for producing creative, high-quality concerts of compelling classical music. What started as a small group of distinguished musicians who wished to perform the music of Johann Sebastian Bach has become a stunning choir performing an eclectic musical repertoire, often collaborating with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic and other fine area musicians.
This is an auditioned ensemble under the baton of Dr. Christine Howlett. Cappella rehearses Monday evenings from 7:30-9:30 p.m. in the Vassar College Chapel. We invite you to fill out an interview form. Click here. We will then be in touch to schedule a zoom interview and audition.
Cappella Festiva Treble Choir was formed 15 years ago to pass on the love of choral music to future generations. The Treble Choir provides an exceptional artistic opportunity for young singers of the Hudson Valley through education in vocal training, musicianship skills, and the exploration of challenging, diverse repertoire for treble voices, ages 10 to 17.
Under the direction of Natalie Bunta, this is an auditioned ensemble that rehearses Mondays from 5:45-7:15 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church at 55 Wilbur Blvd, Poughkeepsie. Membership is chosen through choral interviews. A choral interview is a relaxed, friendly audition in which the director will talk to the singer and listen to them sing a short song. We are looking for participants who love to sing, who have good pitch and rhythm, and who will be committed and focused during rehearsals.
Cor Capriccio Children's Choir, our non-auditioned group for children in 2nd through 6th grades, is directed by Elizabeth Clifton, early childhood music specialist. The children learn songs from a variety of cultures and in a variety of languages. Cor Capriccio offers many benefits to the young singer. Each week, they exercise their bodies and minds as well as their voices. They learn songs to sing but also develop a deeper understanding of tonality, rhythm, musical form, dynamics, and general musicianship. They play singing games and learn to communicate the meaning of a song as well as the notes on a page. While they sing, they work on such important skills as teamwork and self-discipline.
