Homechoir is a digital choir - a community of singers numbering in the thousands who join Ben England BEM (the internet’s choirmaster) on YouTube three times a week for singing, fun and camaraderie.
Homechoir is a new way of learning music. You don’t need to be an accomplished singer to take part. Homechoir members watch and sing along with Ben - teaching is one-way so nobody can hear us but the neighbours! - and are also invited to take part in the live text chat with Ben and with fellow singers around the world. There is a vibrant and friendly social community among the choir.
If you can’t join in live, then you can still enjoy the music-making at any time. All our sessions remain available on YouTube after the live streams end for watching on catch-up when you can, and as often as you like.
It is not necessary to be able to read music, and where scores are needed, Ben will display them on screen to help you learn. As well as traditional and classical choral pieces, Ben teaches a huge range of other music including folk songs, sea shanties, gospel songs, children’s songs and silly songs.
A former Advanced Skills Music Teacher and Director of Music in an OFSTED Outstanding school, Ben also teaches music theory, history and composing as part of Homechoir’s Deep Dives. Ben was awarded the British Empire Medal for starting Homechoir in 2020 in response to the first covid lockdown.
Why not come along and give us a try? We are a very friendly choir with a warm welcome and are open to all.

During the Coronavirus outbreak of 2020, Homechoir (then known as Quarantine Choir) was established by Ben England. Homechoir is a free YouTube channel on which Ben broadcasts a range of free musical and educational programmes, including choir rehearsals, music theory teaching and fun singalong sessions. In October of 2020, Ben (as founder of Homechoir) was awarded the British Empire Medal by Her Majesty The Queen for services to the community during the COVID-19 outbreak.
