Since its inaugural concert in 1941, the Ottawa Choral Society has evolved into one of Canada's most ambitious and prominent symphonic choruses. With more than one hundred and twenty auditioned voices, the Society presents the masterpieces of the choral literature and commissions and performs the works of contemporary modern masters.
Our History
The Ottawa Choral Society is a historic symphonic chorus, directed by the Jean-Sebastien Vallee D. Mus.Now entering its 77th season the choir continues to play a vibrant role in the cultural life of the National Capital Region. With approximately 125 auditioned members, the choir's repertoire spans 6+ centuries . In addition to our annual subscription series, the choir appears regularly with the National Arts Centre and the Ottawa Symphony orchestras. The choir has made five international tours: to Italy (1982 & 2008), Spain (1989), Germany and the Czech Republic (1996) and the United Kingdom and Ireland (2000) during which the BBC followed the choir on tour and made a documentary film that was shown across the UK and Ireland. The Society's biennial New Discoveries Auditions provides cash career awards and professional performance opportunities for Canada's emerging concert artists.
