Founded in 1994, the Peninsula Girls Chorus (PGC) continues to reach singers across the San Francisco peninsula with our excellent program. We have 230 girls in six different chorus levels. Girls can start singing with us as early as age 6 and they move up through the levels as they mature and gain choral experience and expertise. Our six chorus levels are as follows:
In addition to two major concerts every year, our girls perform throughout the community at retirement centers, company galas, tree lightings, professional and collegiate sporting events, and other events as they present themselves. Our performing groups, Concerta and Ensemble, participate in a choir tour every other year.
Besides all of the work and educational emphasis on performance practice and vocal technique, our girls have instruction in musicianship and music theory. All of our conductors have been trained in the Kodaly approach to music education (developed by Hungarian composer Zoltan Kodaly) and they have experience teaching in school music classrooms in addition to their work as choral conductors. Our conductors help our girls to learn to read music at sight, and also to demonstrate their knowledge through written musicianship work by completing all five book levels in the series, “A Young Singer’s Journey: An Integrated Approach to Music Literacy”. For more information on the Kodaly approach, please visit the Organization of American Kodaly Educators website here: http://oake.org/aboutus/kodalyphilosophy.aspx

The Chorus started out with 11 girls and has grown to 230 girls in 6 choir levels. The choir was chosen by CBS news as one of the top choirs on the peninsula, we received the Chorus America award for "Adventurous Programming" in 2008, and we've been chosen as a "Best of Burlingame" business for the past 10 years running.
