“Sunsets are viewed with wonder not just because they are beautiful but because they are fleeting” - Richard Paul Evans
Ephemeral from Greek εφήμερος – ephemeros, literally "lasting only one day". The Ephemeral Choir is a transitory choir of singers and choristers who seek to capture a moment, wrap it in song and craft it into a collaboration of beauty, sound and time. Characteristically each event spends a week building towards one moment where a single recital is performed in a place of exquisite beauty. In 2019 that place was the Cathedral Cave in Jenolan, Blue Mountains, where the choir sang under the directorship of Tony Backhouse, Anders Nyberg and Sue Johnson, with a surprise appearance from didgeridoo player, Charlie McMahon, founder of the group Gondwanaland
The Ephemeral Choir celebrates the beauty of impermanence with unique performances that are transient, but may be remembered forever. “Impermanence is a principal of harmony. When we don’t struggle against it, we are in harmony with reality” Pema Chodron
