Take Note Edinburgh choir are an enthusiastic community choir based in Bruntsfield, Edinburgh. We rehearse every Wednesday evening 7-9pm. We have a wide ranging repertoire from classical to modern pop and rock music.
Our History
Formerly known as Audacity, Take Note began in the summer of 2019. We are an a capella choir, with a repertoire stretching from the Medieval to Coldplay. We are a committee-ran choir with a membership that is open to all.
When we first set out back in 2019, we sat down as a group and explored what we felt it meant to be a member of our community choir.
Firstly we outlined what we wanted Take Note to be – an open, positive choir that encouraged members to improve their voice and learn more about the music they sing. We were keen that our choir would retain it’s community roots and spirit.
From there, we developed our values with full participation across our choir community.
Once we had that, then all we had to do was agree on a Name! Which turned out to be a lot more complicated than we thought – and turns out our members are pretty good with the musical puns! But Take Note was the winning vote of the evening, and henceforth we blossomed out of the ashes of our previous choir and became Take Note, with a shiny new logo and raring to work with our new Musical Director, Callum Morton Hüseyin
We are a supportive space, encouraging our singers to improve without undue pressure. We are respectful of others; we understand that not all of our members have had musical training, and have methods in place to support those who need more assistance with reading music so that it is not a barrier. Plus, singing together is tremendous fun and we love hearing our voices intermingle!
Additional Info for Choristers
Rehearsals are 7-9pm on Wednesday evenings with breaks in line roughly with school holidays. To join, open rehearsals (tasters) are advertised and once completed, prospective members will be asked to sing a short piece with our MD in order to assess musicality and where best to place you. After that, fees are £15 for the first 4 weeks, then £20 per 4-weeks thereafter, payable by bank transfer.
