A come and sing day in preparation for a full service of 9 lessons and  carols at Balliol College, Oxford. Lunch included

Why You Should Attend

By popular demand, we return to Balliol College, Oxford, for this year’s Come and Sing 9 Lessons and Carols day.

Many choirs have found theselves smaller after the various lockdowns and general reluctance to get back into regular choir routines.

Sadly, many churches find themselves unable to put on a traditional 9 lessons and carols service, and others who are able to do so find that they no longer have the resoures to be able to sing challenging music.

Last year we launched our Come and Sing event and had a tremendous response, so we’re doing it again this year.

We will begin work at 11am and will work through untila break time at 1pm. Lunch will be in wonderful dining hall of the college and will include a Christmas style lunch, including a glass of wine. Then its back to work in the afternoon until about 5.30pm with a full service of lessons and carols at 6pm. Last year this was an extremely moving and uplifting event.

In amongst the traditional carols, descants and all, we will include 5 special pieces to give us a bit of a challenge.

Included in the price of this day is the training, lunch, and your music, which you may keep.

Last year, we sold out all 120 places in about a month, so please, think ahead and get your place booked to avoid disappointment.

We have deliberately booked it as close as possible to Christmas, so that we get that “Christmassy” feel, but we have made it a Saturday event, so that people don’t find themselves conflicted with their own church services.

There will be no dress code but Christmas jumpers help to make the day feel festive. Wear whatever you are warm and comfortable in.

Balliol College Chapel is a perfect setting for this event, especially with everybody facing towards each other, so we are really singing together. The dining hall, with it’s oak panelling and portraits of the great and the good of the college is a magnificent place for lunch, and, just outside the entrance to the college, you will find the beautiful, traditional Christmas market. There is nothing that will get you into the Christmas spirit like this day.

Looking forward to seeing you there.
