Todd’s evocative score makes full use of his energetic jazz and gospel stylings in a uniquely reflective and uplifting presentation of the Easter story (Will Todd’s striking oratorio…brilliantly scored…BBC Music Magazine).
Headlined by the improvisatory magic of John Sherwood and the soulful flair of gospel songstress Melissa Davis, some of Toronto’s finest jazz artists, including percussionists Kevin Dempsey and Brian Barlow, bassist Rob McBride, trombonist Rob Somerville and saxophonist Glendon Smith join in a jazz combo with a distinctly upbeat vibe.
Inspirational works by Eriks Ēšenvalds, Timothy Corliss, Patrick Hawes, Paul Halley and composer-in-residence Kai Leung complete this evening of unique and stirring choral virtuosity.
