Threnody: Requiem and Remembrance

Herbert Howells’ Requiem for unaccompanied voices is an exquisite and deeply personal work, which the composer himself later turned to for inspiration after experiencing the most profound personal loss of his son. Jean Coulthard’s Threnody was composed in memory of her mother. John Tavener’s Song for Athene was written as a tribute to a young actress and friend killed in a cycling accident. Music can comfort our hearts in times of mourning and loss.
