Dowlais Male Choir

On 21st May 1841, in a small cottage in Chapel Row, Georgetown, Merthyr Tydfil, a boy was born to parents Daniel and Elizabeth Parry.

Joseph Parry would grow up surrounded by the roar of blast furnaces, the hammering of iron, the airs of the Cyfarthfa Band and the music of countless chapel choirs and Eisteddfodau. This would leave a lifelong impression on the young Joseph, later to become a world famous musician and composer.

178 years later, on his Birthday we are still celebrating his life, works and achievements.

Joseph Parry’s Cottage is open to the public 2pm to 5pm every Saturday and Sunday (April to September)
